One of the biggest challenges Gunner Roofing faces as a roofing, siding, and windows company is weather. It can be our biggest ally or our harshest enemy. It can mean the difference between getting the job down quickly or having to wait.
A survey done by building materials manufacturer James Hardie shows that 76 percent of homeowners have had their home renovation plans impacted by weather, and you can bet that’s a particular issue for coastal homes. For the Fairfield County homeowners in today’s blog post, the weather posed a threat. But more on that later.
The homeowners today called us for a straightforward job. They needed a new roof on their home in Old Greenwich, Connecticut, and Gunner Roofing was recommended to them by a friend. We sent our project manager over for Gunner’s standard thorough roof evaluation.
When the project manager was discussing the new roof quote and roof replacement with the homeowners, they also mentioned that they had some concerns over some things that had been installed the year before. In particular, a skylight and copper chimney flashing.
As we got started on the problem, we ran into some less-than-ideal weather and high winds. High winds and roofing don’t mix for obvious reasons: safety during a roof replacement and damage after the roof replacement is done.
Now, one of the priorities for Gunner Roofing is safety for our team, the homeowners, and the property. That is why we make sure to comply with all safety recommendations. It is advised to cease roof replacement work immediately when wind reaches unsafe speeds that could potentially knock a team member or equipment handling material (like roof shingles) off the roof.
We had to carefully monitor the weather and adjust our schedules accordingly. Not to worry, though. The roofing job was still able to be completed on time. Once the weather and high winds had calmed, we were able to increase our team size to make up for the delay.
As for the clients and their concerns …
We did determine that the previously installed skylight did have some issues. During the roof replacement, we were able to seamlessly replace the skylight.
The other concern was regarding the copper chimney flashing. After inspecting the chimney flashing, we determined to fix a couple small things that could become issues in the future. This is why it’s always so important to have your home exterior, and in particular your roof, evaluated every once in a while. By fixing the flashing issues before they became a major project, this homeowner was able to save money in the long run.
For the roof replacement, the homeowners decided to go with a GAF asphalt shingles in the color charcoal.
GAF is one of the industry leaders for roof shingles and is trusted and used by homeowners everywhere. Quite the popular choice. A GAF asphalt roof offers you years of durability and peace of mind at a budget-friendly price. GAF also carries a solid warranty for their asphalt shingles.
As for the charcoal roof, not only is this popping up in design trends everywhere for roof shingles, but it also takes years off the home, making it look brand-new again. As always, it’s incredible to see what a difference a new roof can make, like this sharp charcoal roof.
Something worth noting about this Old Greenwich roofing job is that the clients had young kids. And like most young kids, they want to spend as much time as possible outdoors. What does this have to do with the roofing job, you might ask?
Well, as we all know, roofing work can be messy. Time and again, we have had clients complain that other contractors left them with a mess to clean up outdoors after the job was done. And that means kids can’t romp around the yard in safety without having to worry about dodging post-project debris like random nails and old roof shingles.
This is unacceptable to us. We are here to make your home ownership life easier! That is why we take extra care to ensure that when we are done with a project, we clean up so well that the only thing we are leaving behind is a beautiful home exterior. We are careful to discard all of the old roof shingles and other roofing materials used outdoors so our clients never have to worry about a mess in their yard.
One of the best parts of this job was that the homeowner’s father was a long-time contractor. We love getting to talk with others in the field. Both he and the homeowners were thoroughly impressed with the job we did on this beautiful charcoal roof. Not just with the actual brand-new roof, but with the extra care and attention our project manager gave to them.
Between addressing our Old Greenwich client’s concerns, keeping the yard spotless, and doing a phenomenal job on the brand-new roof with GAF asphalt shingles, it’s pretty clear that when you hire Gunner Roofing, you are in great hands!
Thank you to our clients for allowing us to work on your home. If you are in need of a new roof quote, please feel free to give us a call anytime. The new roof quote is free, and we’d love your roofing business. And don’t forget, we do siding (specializing in James Hardie products) and windows as well!
