After Connecticut, my favorite state has to be Florida, the Sunshine State. I love the weather, the beach, and Disney World. Our clients in today’s blog post share my sentiment. They are living my dream life of having residences in both places.
After thinking about it for a while as they spent time in Florida, the homeowners determined that they needed a new siding job done (siding replacement) at their other residence, which actually straddles a two-state border, thus the Connecticut connection and Rye Brook, New York, mailing address. (They get to enjoy the best “elements” of two states!)
They knew this Rye Brook siding replacement job could take some time. The weather was getting warmer, and lots of home renovation projects occur during the summer months, but ideally, they would have liked for the siding replacement done before they returned to Rye Brook around Memorial Day.
With the preferred timespan and budget in place, they just had to find a trustworthy and reliable siding contractor that served Westchester County in general, Rye Brook in particular. They asked around, and after several neighbors recommended Gunner Roofing as a tried-and-true siding contractor, they gave us a call. We were excited to help them out with their siding replacement.
One thing we are known for here at Gunner Roofing is getting renovation projects done in a timely manner. After a thorough evaluation of the Rye Brook residence, this seemed like it would be your average straightforward job. (No issues around existing fascia, windows, doors, etc.) And overall, it was straightforward siding replacement job, with a few exceptions.
When you are working on a home and the homeowner is a long distance away, in a different state (or country even), it can be a little tricky. First off, communication issues can arise, and second, technical issues. For example, if a circuit breaker is tripped, or there is a question about the backyard or parking, you can’t just knock on the door.
Although we were all on the same coast, it was a long distance – the homeowners were living their best lives in Florida, and the beach and phones are two elements that don’t really go together. This made it a little more difficult to get ahold of them. We get it.
Fortunately, our project manager, Anthony, is well-versed in dealing with renovation projects and long distance with out-of-town homeowners. We always do our best to meet or exceed a deadline and hit budget. With four weeks until the desired completion of the siding replacement job in Rye Brook, we knew that we had to get to work fast.
Once the clients decided on the type of siding they wanted, we placed an immediate order, given supply chain issues everyone is dealing with these days. We usually keep material in stock because of that very same supply chain obstacle, but as luck would have it, we had just run out of the siding in this particular color (Pearl Gray, to be specific).
For the siding replacement, we used James Hardie fiber cement lap. There are many siding options for any budget, but James Hardie fiber cement lap siding is a popular choice, and by popular, I mean the most popular brand of siding in America.
Beyond just being popular, James Hardie fiber cement lap siding is the industry standard. It will not only look nice but also offer superior protection against the elements. This is the siding you want for your house to look great for years to come.
When talking about protection regarding James Hardie fiber cement lap siding, we don’t just mean against weather. James Hardie fiber cement lap siding also helps protect your home against fire and pests.
After we placed the order for the James Hardie fiber cement lap siding in Pearl Gray, we immediately got to work assembling the ideal team for this Rye Brook renovation job. It would need to be done fast, but everyone would also need space to work, so sizing had to be perfect.
Throughout all of this, Anthony kept in close contact with the homeowners. If he couldn’t get ahold of them via text, he would send an email just so they could check it and get back to him at their convenience. It was not uncommon for Anthony to take his work home with him and send updates in the evenings when it was convenient for the homeowners. Now that’s a project manager going above and beyond!
Once all the materials were in, we got started bright and early the next day. As mentioned before, the job itself went smoothly. Fortunately, there were no hidden surprises, no critters, no bad weather, nothing that would set this Westchester County project back. It was a larger space, so in addition to the crew size, we extended our hours as extra protection that we would finish on time.
I’m happy to say we finished this Rye Brook siding replacement job before the deadline. I say it all the time, but I’m going to say it again, “Change your siding, change your house.”
It really gave this home the makeover it needed. Gone was the old, outdated siding, and in was the new aesthetically pleasing siding. When the owners came back home to Westchester County, they almost drove past their house! If you check out the accompanying pictures with this blog post, you can see how striking the James Hardie Pearl Gray color works with the rest of the shades on the house and property, front yard to backyard. So clean and crisp.
They were ecstatic with the results and all of the communication along the way. They didn’t really think we’d be able to have everything done on the siding replacement from start to finish in less than a month, but we pulled it off.
Thank you to everyone (from project manager to crew) who worked so hard on this project and was able to make finishing it a reality. For all your exterior project needs – including new windows, siding, roofing, and gutters – contact Gunner Roofing today!
